Outspoken veteran media analyst Tamale Mirundi has thumped Rwemiyaga County MP Theodore Sekikubo and vows to publicly beat him again should an opportunity present itself. The dramatic events occurred on Tuesday at around 9-10am. Sekikubo, who had just been hosted along with Bukooli MP Solomon Silwanyi by Morning Breeze talk show host the legendary Simon Njala Kaggwa, was on his way out as Mirundi walked in for his equally popular “One on One with Tamale Mirundi” hosted by Sir Simon Muyanga Lutaaya. Very reliable NBS insiders have relayed to us what transpired inside the corridors and how the events unfolded.

THE DETAILED ACCOUNT:
On learning that Mirundi was on his way, Sekikubo stormed Muyanga’s desk demanding to be allowed on the show to counter what he called malicious stuff Mirundi had previously said about him regarding the grabbing of public land in Kampala. In his curious defense of city property mogul Sudhir Ruparellia, Mirundi has previously said Sekikubo and other liberal-minded MPs have no moral authority to cheer Justice Catherine Bamugemereire’s efforts to expose land grabbers while trimming them to size because they themselves aren’t clean regarding the grabbing of public land.

“Sekikubo’s wife had applied for the same land Mafia-style but Dr. Rose Nassali Lukwago who was PS then blocked the application. She was determined to protect that public land [for Kololo SS near Sudhir’s school] but was betrayed by Ministers Frank Tumwebaze and Charles Bakkabulindi who wrote letters of no objection on which Sudhir based to get the land,” Mirundi has been saying. Indeed sometime back when he appeared before a committee of Parliament to answer for the same land, Sudhir objected to the attendance of MP Sekikubo on grounds that he was an interested party. Sekikubo complied and left the committee meeting for that day.

We asked an NBS management official as to why their man Muyanga allows his guest Mirundi to attack people anyhow and he said: “On this Sekikubo matter there is some grain of truth though the man might have exaggerated one or two things.” So on his request being denied to appear with Mirundi, Sekikubo waited and decided to confront the man from Kalisizo as soon as he arrived. “You hired thug why are you always character-assassinating people? I have been hearing you accusing my wife unfairly. Today you will have to produce proof for your nonsense,” eye witnesses quoted Sekikubo as confronting Mirundi as soon as he walked into the Media Plaza building that houses NTV TV studios and offices.

Mirundi told Sekikubo: “You can’t intimidate me and I’m here to repeat it before you that you are a mafia. You aren’t as clean as you want to make the public think.” Sekikubo then moved to grab Mirundi who for a moment overpowered him and pushed him towards a tight corner from where he attempted to thump him in the face but Sekikubo regained his energy and grabbed Mirundi by the collar. As the NBS staffers pensively looked on from a distance, the two wrestled each other against the wall while tightly holding onto each other’s hands until Mirundi disengaged loudly shouting “nkumaze [I have finished you today].” By that time both men partly had torn garments and Sekikubo went grumbling that the NBS management was being unfair regarding the Mirundi show. “Otherwise why would you allow such a biased man to appear for all those hours alone character-assassinating other people?” he ranted as Muyanga signaled Mirundi to come up stairs as it was time for the show.

Once on air, Mirundi declared how he had thumped Sekikubo beyond recognition but moderator Muyanga discouraged him away from that talk. This left millions of NBS viewers anxious regarding what had exactly happened between the two dramatic politicians outside the studios. Mirundi insisted Sekikubo is a shameless thief who had sold his grandfather’s burial grounds. Mirundi also wondered why Sekikubo was dragged to Bamugemereire commission of inquiry if he is indeed clean as he claims. The movie of the Mirundi vs. Sekikubo scuffle was well captured on the NBS CCTV cameras but when we contacted them, management was still weighing its options on whether or not to release the footage.
