Uganda is set to witness the release of a compelling and long-awaited autobiography by one of its most respected business leaders and philanthropists. Titled Learning Beyond the Classroom: My Autobiography, the book offers an intimate, inspirational, and deeply reflective look into a life defined by perseverance, vision, and service.
In this remarkable memoir, Dr. Nzeyi shares the journey of a young boy from Kabale who, despite early loss and overwhelming odds, rose to become a national icon in business and a contributor to Uganda’s social and economic development. Orphaned at three months old and raised by a single father, his story is one of resilience, determination, and lifelong learning far beyond the boundaries of formal education.
What sets Learning Beyond the Classroom apart is not just the narrative of personal triumph, but the way it weaves together Uganda’s history through the eyes of someone who lived it from the grassroots to the boardroom.
The book features nostalgic recollections from Dr. Nzeyi’s early school days, where he shared a Primary One class with future leaders like former Prime Ministers Amama Mbabazi and Ruhakana Rugunda and Late Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile. It also includes reflections and appearances by influential national figures such as Canon Mathew Rukikaire and Professor Maggie Kigozi, who has been both a friend and a business partner in the Pepsi Uganda franchise.
Indeed, the autobiography provides an in-depth look at the growth of Pepsi Cola in Uganda, a brand Dr. Nzeyi helped steer as Executive Chairman and Founder of Crown Beverages Limited. His leadership in the private sector has made a lasting mark, creating employment, strengthening Uganda’s economy, and building one of the most successful homegrown corporate stories in East Africa.
Published by renowned Ugandan author and literary figure Nabimanya Ronald, the autobiography captures not only the milestones of Dr. Nzeyi’s business journey but also the invaluable life lessons that came along the way.
Dr. Nzeyi candidly reflects on moments when education nearly slipped out of reach due to unpaid school fees, leading him to start selling eggs as a young boy to fund his studies. When circumstances pushed him beyond the classroom, life itself became his greatest teacher. His contributions would later be recognized with an honorary doctorate from Nkumba University, affirming that true knowledge is not only earned in academic halls, but also through experience, service, and innovation.
Early reviewers describe the book as “a national treasure, rich with wisdom and inspiration”. It is expected to resonate deeply with Ugandans from all walks of life; students, educators, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders alike.
The official launch of Learning Beyond the Classroom is expected soon, with an audience of high-profile guests, business leaders, and fellow change makers set to attend.
This is more than just a book. It is a blueprint for personal growth, a historical reflection, and a timeless Ugandan story of rising beyond the odds. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
