Lapair Opens 19th Branch in Uganda to Expand Access to Eye Care

By Musa Mbogo
Lapair Glasses Uganda has expanded its footprint with the launch of a new branch in Kawempe, marking its 19th outlet in the country and the 15th within the Kampala metropolitan area.
The new facility, located opposite the Shell petrol station five miles from Kampala (Ku 5), is part of the company’s mission to make eye care more accessible to Ugandans.
Speaking at the launch on Tuesday, John Hillary Balyejusa, the company’s Public Relations and Communications Officer, emphasized the importance of expanding access to specialized services.
“Uganda has only about 500 eye specialists for a population of nearly 50 million. This means many people go without the care they need. At Lapair, we believe clear sight changes everything, so we are putting branches across the country to bridge this gap,” Balyejusa said.
Like the company’s other 18 branches across Uganda, the Kawempe outlet will offer free eye tests, consultations, and a range of affordable services. Customers can also access prescription glasses starting at UGX 150,000, with flexible payment options available.
Lapair’s approach is to make specialist eye care more affordable than is often the case in the sector. “Eye care tends to be more expensive than general medicine, but we are committed to offering transparent prices that suit people regardless of their financial situation,” Balyejusa explained.
With branches now present in every region of Uganda and operations across nine countries, Lapair is rapidly expanding its reach. The company is also nearing a major milestone, expecting to record its one-millionth eye test in Uganda in the coming weeks.
Balyejusa urged Ugandans to prioritize preventive care. “Eye defects usually don’t come with pain, and by the time symptoms show, it might be too late. That’s why we encourage everyone to get at least one eye test a year.”
The new Kawempe branch will be managed by a qualified eye specialist, ensuring that customers receive the same quality of care available at Lapair outlets countrywide.
