Kyambogo University Explains What Made Recent Student Dismissals Unavoidable

In the following official statement, Kyambogo University has rendered a detailed explanation justifying the recent dismissal of students:

VERBATTIM: At its 111th meeting held on 27th June 2025, the University Council received and considered a report from the Students’ Affairs and Welfare Committee which recommended dismissal, suspension and warning to the 25 students who appeared before the Committee and were found guilty of the various charges levied against them which include;

  • Breach of peace Contrary to Regulation 20 (a) of Kyambogo University Students’ Regulations 2003 as amended in 2016.
  • Mounting of road blocks contrary to Regulation 19(b) of the Kyambogo University Student’s Regulations, 2003 as amended in 2016.
  • Insubordination to the university authority contrary to Regulation 18 and 15 (c) of Kyambogo University Students’ Regulations 2003 as amended in 2016.

as provided for under Regulations 37(m) of the Kyambogo University Students’ Regulations 2003 as amended in 2016.

Accordingly, Mr. Benjamin Akiso, Registration Number 24/U/SLI/02832/PD was dismissed from the University with immediate effect for being found guilty of the above-mentioned cases charged against him in accordance with Regulation 37 (m) in Kyambogo University Students’ Regulations 2003, as amended in 2016.

The following students were suspended from the University for three consecutive semesters with effect from the 1st semester of 2025/2026 Academic Year: –

  1. Kayemba Muhamed – 21/U/APD/027/GV
  2. Muganzi Asaph – 23/U/EBD/12601/GV
  3. Murozi Abel – 22/U/EED/1009/GV
  4. Kiptoo Ivan Cheywa – 23/U/AGD/07009/PD
  5. Mwesigwa Timothy – 23/U/BDD/08968/PD
  6. Okello Emmanuel – 21/U/AED/10844/PD
  7. Okello Pascal Brian – 23/U/PLD/14574/GV
  8. Kawooya Ivan – 23/U/BSE/06704/PE
  9. Muzahura Pius – 23/U/VAD/08901/PD

The following students were suspended from the University for one semester, i.e during the 1st semester of 2025/2026 Academic Year.

  1. Kansiime Frank – 23/U/CHE/06414/PE
  2. Nanziga Julius – 23/U/BEE/10740/PE

The following students were given warning: –

  1. Kabuni Evalyn – 23/U/AGD/06154/PD
  2. Nansenja Winnie – 24/U/BRD/270/GV
  3. Namanya Bashaija Hillary – 22/U/ECD/1776/PD
  4. Muguluma Wahab – 22/U/TCD/0986/GV
  5. Kiwumulo Paul – 23/U/AED/07178/PD
  6. Moro Alfred – 23/U/SSD/14071/PD
  7. Avaye Nickson – 21/U/EBD/159/GV
  8. Nakimuli Sharon – 23/U/MFD/09730/PD
  9. Baisi Isaac – 24/U/AGD/064/GV

Whereas, the case of Kajubi Maktun, Registration Number 19/U/CSD/3962/PD was referred to Senate to appropriately handle his academic issues.

And the following students were acquitted of the charges leveled against them: –

  1. Washitwaya Joel Vicent – 23/U/CTD/13456/PD
  2. Abigaba Cornelius – 23/U/AEE/02723/PE
  3. Owor John Masanja – 23/U/BEE/12307/PE

To that effect, all students who have been dismissed or suspended from the University are prohibited from accessing the University premises, attending academic and extracurricular activities, using the University facilities or making any representation on behalf of Kyambogo University Students’ Guild or the University.
