Proud and contemptuous of others as always, rich man Yusuf Nsibambi (also Mawokota South MP) has once again thrown barbs at former FDC allies who continue to shelter at Katonga Road in the leafy neighborhood of Nakasero.
Nsibambi on Wednesday spoke to journalists at Parliament and was asked for his views about the fact that the FDC members at Katonga are just days away from getting a certificate evidencing registration of their own party called Freedom Party (PFF).
He sarcastically congratulated and purported to wish them luck while, ironically, imploring them to consider rejoining FDC and coming back home at Najjanankumbi. Nsibambi then revealed his true sentiment when he said that the Katonga-based PFF is chiefly a project of two politicians from Buganda region namely Erias Lukwago & Semujju Nganda.
He claimed that these two are very ambitious and self-seeking politicians who mooted the idea of forming PFF so that they could have a platform to campaign on going into 2026 elections. However, he never explained why he thinks forming PFF is the only way they can retain their positions or even remain relevant as opposed to joining already vibrant parties like NUP.
The truth is that if the duo merely wanted the easy life, as Nsibambi seemed to insinuate, the better and less painful way to retaining their positions would have been bowing to Bobi Wine and becoming members under his NUP which continues to sell like hotcake in their respective constituencies.
Nsibambi also leveraged the microphone infront of him to assert that even when they get a registered party called PFF, the duo of Lukwago and Semujju would continue being more less homeless politicians because, unlike FDC which permanently owns Najjanankumbi, their PFF doesn’t own anything. He claimed that even Katonga isn’t theirs and will never be. He added that the Katonga premises actually are more for FDC than PFF.
He added that Katonga has always been a branch for Najjanankumbi, a reality he claimed has never changed up to this day. He implied that even the duo’s patriarch Dr. Kizza Besigye doesn’t own anything at Katonga making it clear that this is one reality that will never change. He said the Semujju-Lukwago duo doesn’t have either a legal or equitable interest in Katonga, just like their patriarch Kizza Besigye. He said none of these owns or holds the title for the Katonga premises and that reality will never change.
Yet the available history shows that, much as Katonga is Chaapa Karuhanga’s and not Besigye’s it’s very unlikely the registered Katonga owner will ever be more comfortable doing business with the actors at Najjanankumbi than with his old friend and comrade Dr. Kizza Besigye.
It’s very unlikely that Chaapa, who has so much respect and admiration for Dr. Kb, can ever kick out PFF and let Katonga exist as a branch of FDC Najjanankumbi. Even when Besigye, who Chaapa considers to be a higher commitment person than any of the people at Najjanankumbi, was the FDC President, he always had a private office at Katonga. He was to use Katonga to house the Inter-Party Cooperation and coordinate his Walk to Work protests of 2011.
It’s at Katonga where Besigye also headquartered his People’s Government and it has remained his tactical base up to this day. Even when he still operated his lucrative consultancy business in Uganda, the registered property owner Chaapa Karuhanga (a co-founder of FDC) has never exhibited any discomfort having Dr. Besigye operate from his premises.
