In June 2018, Judith Babirye glamorously wedded her new man Paul Musoke Sebulime, a fellow MP from Buikwe district for which the gospel singer is woman MP. VP Edward Sekandi was chief guest and many Ministers and MPs witnessed as Sebulime ignored pleas by his Nalongo Lukiya Ntale not to abandon her. Saying she had finally managed to overcome evil spirits that killed her earlier marriage to Sam Niiwo, Babirye vowed to love Sebulime in ways that would make Jesus happy. Pastors Irene Manjeri and Imelda Namutebi wedded the two and prayed to God to keep them together.

The political couple, that has been very rare in the Constituency since, had been living in Kololo and Ntinda in rented properties since money seemed not to be a problem for the previously debt-stricken Babirye anymore.
But knowledgeable sources say the new marriage began developing cracks late last year when Sebulime started blaming circumstances while complaining that Babirye was too wide and he wanted his space. That he started absenting himself from night duty condemning Babirye (who had promised him twins within the first 9 months) to loneliness and depression.
Babirye, who was already at war with voters over Togikwatako, was uncomfortable having to often explain why Sebulime was no longer visible in her company. She fell ill for things that couldn’t easily be explained medically.
In fact, in January 2019, Speaker Kadaga read out a list of ailing MPs calling on Ugandans to pray for them and Babirye was top on that list. That one of the things that caused her to emotionally become very devastated was the realization that actually Sebulime had more female family members than had originally been disclosed. Close pals say Babirye couldn’t stand sharing his company with those other family members. Sebulime, who used to sit with his wife in Parliament when their romance still had the warmth, these days reacts apprehensively each time fellow legislators inquire about his wedded wife Judith Babirye who curiously continues to mostly live out of the country. Babirye’s father Henry Mukooza is said to be most devastated wondering who exactly bewitched his celebrity daughter when it comes to marriage issues.
This cracked up marriage, coming so close to the next election, is no doubt going to cost the two already very unpopular politicians votes in 2021. President Museveni some time back publicly gave up on both after inquiring about them during a public rally in Buikwe where voters cynically told him: “Those two are like that sir ever busy making love as part of their endless honey moon.”
Ironically Museveni that day was in Buikwe to campaign for his party candidates during the Njeru by-elections and their absence clearly indicated to him he could only count on them at his own peril. (For comments, call, text or whatsapp us on 0703164755 or email us at mulengera2040@gmail.com).
