ITMS Launches ‘Safe Kids, Safe Future’ Road Safety Campaign in Kampala

ITMS, in partnership with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the Police’s Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety, has launched the first education session of its ‘Safe Kids, Safe Future’ campaign at Ntinda Primary School.

The initiative aims to educate pupils on safe road use practices and raise awareness about the dangers of reckless driving.

As part of the campaign, ITMS will conduct education sessions at public events and schools, distribute reflective vests, educational bookmarks, and children’s helmets, and collaborate with traffic authorities to ensure effective road safety education.

At Ntinda Primary School, reflective vests were given to upper-class pupils who walk to and from school during early or late hours, enhancing their visibility and safety.

Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety, emphasized the urgency of the initiative, noting that “every day, Uganda loses two school-going children due to reckless driving.

ITMS’ commitment through corporate social responsibility activities and smart transport solutions is a welcome step toward safer roads.”

Official statistics indicate that over 5,000 people die annually in Uganda due to road crashes, with children among the most vulnerable.

Jemima Nalumansi, Bloomberg Road Safety Project Coordinator at KCCA, underscored the city’s commitment to protecting its residents: “Uganda’s roads shouldn’t be a death trap for our children. Speeding and careless driving put them at the highest risk. We value the collaboration with ITMS and the Traffic Police in making Kampala’s roads safer for everyone.”

The campaign marks a significant effort to combine education, safety equipment, and collaboration between private and public stakeholders to curb road accidents among school-going children.
