The developing story reaching our desk indicates that former Kampala Woman MP Nabillah Nagayi is seriously considering the possibility of allying herself with Mohammed Nsereko to plunge into the Kampala Central MP race and directly face off with NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya.
Renowned for taking no prisoners when it comes to fighting injustice inside Uganda’s opposition political parties, Nabillah has lately been very outspoken and critical of NUP and more so its SG Rubongoya. She wanted to automatically be the Lord Mayor flag bearer for NUP because she was the one Bobi Wine fronted in 2021. As had been widely expected, she was fatally floored by Erias Lukwago in 2021, something which left many top NUP bosses feeling bruised and humiliated.
She prepared jetting in from Canada well convinced that she was going to be NUP’s 2026 candidate for a second time only to be snubbed in favour of Eng Ronald Balimwezo. This is why Nabillah, who spent much of her 15 years in FDC fighting party leadership, is all of a sudden angry and belligerent towards NUP whose foot soldiers can potentially undress and destroy her in just 24 hours.
Whereas Mathias Mpuuga’s DF considers her to be one with a damaged reputation and therefore hard brand to sell because of marital fights with Mr. Isaac Ssempala and they can’t bring her closer, Nandala Mafabi’s FDC at Najjanankumbi is understood to be okay with her. They consider her to be useful and deployable in their broader intrigue schemes against NUP.
Sources say some insiders at Najjanankumbi have been suggesting that the party woos her back and deploy her to once again carry their ticket either for Lord Mayorship or Kampala Central MP. And gratefully, Najjanankumbi has the money because knowledgeable insiders say that big-name candidates of the Nabillah league are destined to be facilitated with Shs00m each for their 2026 campaigns.
Predictably, Nabillah won’t be winning anything in Kampala regardless of which party she runs on and she will naturally end up quarrelling with either Nsereko or guys at Najjanankumbi whereafter she can safely defect into NRM where Gen Museveni (in case he is re-elected) can deploy her in some rewarding role which could be ambassadorship to some mission abroad. She can even make a good RDC for Kampala or any of the other cities of Uganda. She can also be appointed into a public service role because she has good qualifications from Makerere and other academic institutions.
