The Woman MP for Bulambuli District and former minister for energy, Eng. Irene Nafuna Muloni, has formally launched her campaign to retain the NRM party flag ahead of the upcoming primaries set for July 16, 2025.

The launch event, held on Sunday at Muyembe Town Council, attracted a wave of enthusiastic support from across the district.

Muloni, who also serves as the NRM National Finance Secretary, used the occasion to present her nomination forms, which were signed by both leaders and supporters in attendance.

The event was graced by a number of NRM officials, including Gerald Nangoli (MP, Elgon North County), Paul Kimamanti (NRM District Chairman), Simon Peter Wanazofu (aspirant for LCV Chairperson), newly elected sub-county leaders, and campaign coordinators drawn from all corners of Bulambuli.

” I’m very happy that the leaders turned up in large numbers in such a short time. They have already signed my nomination forms, and we are ready to begin campaigns across all 26 sub-counties and 1,323 villages,” Muloni said.

She thanked the people of Bulambuli for the continued trust they have shown her since 2010, when she first entered Parliament, further appreciating the youth for their willingness to volunteer in her campaign.

“I thank them and assure the public that I love them all and am committed to continue working with them,” she added.

Highlighting her service record, Muloni pointed to several achievements during her tenure, citing electricity extension, health service improvements, road infrastructure, agricultural support including seedlings and tractors, maize milling machines for women, education scholarships, and youth employment programs.

In his remarks, Simon Peter Wanazofu called for unity, warning against political division and sectarian tendencies, noting that he had returned to seek the district LCV seat. He also asked for forgiveness wherever he went wrong, urging togetherness for a smooth development of their area.

District Chairman Paul Kimamanti, while addressing a gathering under the Bugisu Intellectual Forum, emphasized that NRM must respect the will of the people on the ground. “To produce strong candidates, they must be elected by the people, not through manipulation. In Bulambuli, there will be no stealing or buying of party flags as long as I’m in office,” he said.

The mood at the rally captured the broader political temperature in the district, as many residents see Muloni as a leader who ushered in development after years of stagnation.

References were made (though not directly by speakers at the event).to earlier times when poor leadership allegedly left the district with roads overrun by banana plantations and limited access routes like the Kaserem road.

Her backers argue that she has brought visible change to the district, and that her leadership offers a better future for Bulambuli.

As the NRM primaries draw closer, one clear thing is that Eng. Irene Muloni is not entering the race alone but walking with a constituency that believes in her track record. The question is no longer about who wants to run, but who has walked the journey with the people.
