Buikwe South MP Lulume Bayiga, who came second to Norbert Mao has released the following narrative calling on his supporters and fellow democrats not to relent nor surrender to Norbert Mao but to remain firm and resolute-making it clear the struggle to rescue DP won’t be for the faint-hearted and is still on.
We hereunder reproduce Hon. Bayiga’s written statement.
VERBATTIM: Dear DP members, I bring you warm greetings from the depth of my heart. The last three months saw us grappling with an opaque process to the National Delegates’ conference organised by Mr. Rutagwera and Mr. Gerald Siranda under Mr. Nobert Mao, Minister of Justice and constitutional affairs in the NRM government.
Some of us would not have participated in such an opaque( not being transparent) process, but our hope was premised in the resolve of those who loved DP country-wide to overwhelm the diabolical NRM forces in DP, in order to redeem our Party from captivity and grow it again to greatness.
In our various ways we reached out to probable Delegates in the countryside, activating branch leaders and inspiring them to do what it takes in their means to redeem the Democratic Party from the NRM Captivity.
We all observed that Mao, Siranda and Rutagwera were actively eliminating Party branches and individuals with dissenting views on their leadership and on their cooperation agreement with Mr. Museveni.
In spite of all the mischief, DP members were determined to change the leadership of DP from its marauding captors.
With your determination, you managed to undress and to expose the nakedness of Nobert Mao, Siranda, Mbidde, Mayambala etc and their hang-man Kennedy Mutenyo.
They had to steal the elections not only by multiple voting or the use of mercenaries, but with the force of arms and man- handlers in the form of Kanyamas to silence you the members and your will.
They even introduced a ballot box number 12 which contained over 600 votes ticked entirely for Nobert Mao. Shame!!! I guess I would have been killed had I intervened physically because all eyes and guns were set on me and Elia Alitia.
DP members, the Mbarara NDC established a clear dividing line and the Party got irreversibly divided into DP/NRM Party led by Mao on the one hand, and the DP of Benedicto Kiwanuka led by me and Alitia Elia, who stood in that election and were voted for.
Let me make it clear, Mr Nobert Mao and his executive are not leading the DP you all know.
What they lead is a DPNRM cocktail Party. The earliest you wake up to this reality the better.
We the grandsons and granddaughters of Yozefu Kasolo, Matayo Mugwanya, Benedicto Kiwanuka, Paul Ssemogerere and Ssebaana Kizito, Ambrose Okello, Jino Obonyo, Alex Latim, Tiberio Okeny, Boniface Byanyima, Ben Isiko, Kyaalya, Prof Kyesimira, Imalingat, and Aliphonse Ntaale, Louis Tyaba, Ambrose Kibuuka among others, we have the duty to keep our constitution and to revive the DP we know and to make it as alive as alive as ever before.
And I Dr Bayigga Michael Lulume, I am well dressed up to move you forward.
We should speak boldly and act so at this moment at the crossroads we have been left in.
I wish you good reflections about our future.
As of now we are consulting widely and carefully on our next steps. It is going to be meticulous but we shall be better anyway.
To all those who supported me, campaigned for me and those who voted for me, know you are treasured because you know the value of your Party and the Material of the leader we deserve. May God bless us with life to see what will come at the end of the tunnel.
To those who confused and misguided delegates by dissuaded them from voting at the National Delegates’ conference, we know who you are. Your choice was Mao. You desired that Mao retains our Party in Captivity.
Yes, you may run but you may not hide. We saw you.
I urge you to calm down but wake up to the cleavage that happened in Mbarara and start to get going. Don’t sit on the right track , keep moving. For truth and Justice! Dr Bayigga Michael Lulume President of DP Ben Kiwanuka. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
