Equity Bank Unveils 5th Edition NARO Golf Open

Equity Bank Uganda, in partnership with the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), has launched the 5th Edition of the Equity NARO Golf Open 2025, a three-day tournament set for 27th–29th November at the Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club in Namulonge.

The Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club, located within Uganda’s largest agricultural research centre, has long been recognised as a breeding ground for emerging golf talent. Its 9-hole course offers an ideal environment for both training and competition.

This year’s tournament will run under the theme “17 Years of transforming lives in Uganda,” celebrating Equity Bank’s 17 years of impact, partnership, and contribution to Uganda’s financial sector.

The event will bring together golfers, corporate leaders, customers, and community partners for a blend of competition, networking, and celebration.

Speaking at the launch, Equity Bank reaffirmed its commitment to sports development, community engagement, and customer-focused initiatives. Executive Director Claver Serumaga described the tournament as a celebration of legacy, community, and the nurturing of talent. He noted that many of Uganda’s top golfers began their journey at Namulonge and emphasised Equity’s dedication to supporting institutions that raise and empower young players.

He also announced that the 17th hole will be symbolically branded as the Equity 17th Hole, marking the bank’s 17-year journey with the communities it serves.

The bank’s continued investment in the Namulonge Golf Open reflects its broader commitment to developing the sport and strengthening community partnerships.

The club has hosted several notable tournaments this year, including the Namulonge Ladies Open and the K&K Invitational Pro-Am, both supported by Equity Bank and featuring top amateur and professional golfers. Such events have contributed significantly to the growth of golf in the central region.

Among the top competitors expected this year is star golfer Meron Kyomugisha, winner of the 2022 Namulonge edition and the recent 27th Kinyara Golf Open in Masindi. Her strong form has set high expectations for a thrilling contest.

Lady Captain Sheila Aine of the Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club expressed appreciation for the continued partnership, noting that the tournament gives the club a platform to showcase its course and further support the development of women’s golf in Uganda.
