The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the successful launch of the nationwide display of the National Voters Register, reaffirming its commitment to a transparent and inclusive electoral process ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
The exercise, which officially began today (April 25) and runs through May 15, 2025, is already underway in the vast majority of polling stations across the country.
Speaking to the media at the Commission’s headquarters in Kampala (Industrial Area), EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama disclosed that while the process is proceeding smoothly in most areas, a total of 620 polling stations will temporarily delay the start of the display due to minor technical hitches.
“Unlike the rest of the country where the display exercise is in full gear, these particular stations require a few corrections before we can proceed,” Byabakama stated, adding that the commission is working expeditiously to resolve the glitches and will begin the display in the affected areas as soon as the issues are addressed.
The affected polling stations are located in several districts including: Mityana (370), Kiryandongo (78), Mbarara City (48), Mpigi (46), Mukono (32), Kikuube (15), Kampala (18), Fort Portal (03), Masaka City (02), Kassanda (02), Arua City (02), Buikwe (01), Buvuma Islands (01), and Kitagwenda (01).
Byabakama emphasized that the integrity of the electoral process remains paramount. “The Electoral Commission is committed to conducting a free and fair electoral process. These delays, though unfortunate, are being addressed with utmost urgency to ensure every eligible voter is accounted for.”
The EC also reminded the public that the registers for special interest groups, like youth, persons with disabilities, and older persons, will be displayed separately from April 25 to May 8, 2025.
Importantly, the Commission noted that during the display period, no new voter applications or transfers will be accepted, as this phase is strictly for verification and correction of the existing register.
In a continued effort to promote transparency and foster international confidence, the EC has also opened its accreditation portal for local and international election observers.
Interested parties can now submit applications through the Commission’s official website at www.ec.or.ug/accreditation. Coordination with diplomatic missions and international bodies is being managed in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“As the Commission, we are confident that with the public’s support and stakeholder engagement, this process will set the foundation for a credible and successful 2026 election,” the EC boss concluded.
The Electoral Commission encourages all Ugandans to actively participate in the ongoing display exercise by verifying their voter information at their respective polling stations.
