Ugandan women’s empowerment advocate Dr Aisha Ruth Kasolo Biyinzika has sounded a strong warning to young people chasing the dream of owning a home, saying many are falling into costly traps while trying to build houses beyond their budgets.

In a new advisory message shared online, Dr Kasolo highlighted the growing struggle among young people who want to build homes but end up facing financial disappointment. She pointed out that the dream of constructing a perfect house has become harder than many expected, especially for those working abroad who send money home to start construction.

According to her message, a common problem arises when people working overseas trust relatives, friends or contractors to build houses on their behalf. Many send large sums of money with the hope that their dream home will be completed, only to return and find unfinished buildings or projects that have stalled halfway.

Dr Kasolo also warned that many people underestimate the true cost of building. She noted that some save what they believe is a huge amount of money and expect it to complete a dream house, only to be shocked when the funds run out before the house is finished.

Her advice to young people is simple but practical: understand your real budget before starting construction and build a house that matches what you can afford.

Instead of rushing into large and expensive projects, she encouraged people to take a step-by-step approach to construction. Starting with a smaller structure, she explained, can help people gradually build toward their bigger dream without falling into financial pressure.

Dr Kasolo emphasized that there is nothing wrong with starting small. A modest house today, she suggested, can later be expanded or improved once more money becomes available.

She also encouraged people to focus first on laying a strong foundation and completing each stage of construction slowly as finances allow. According to her message, patience and careful planning can prevent many of the frustrations that people face when they attempt to build too much at once.

Her message has resonated with many followers who say the advice reflects the reality facing thousands of young people trying to turn the dream of home ownership into reality.
