Bobi Wine says he can’t rule out street protests as one of the many ways his People Power supporters might eventually resort to-to finally get President Museveni out of power. Appearing on Buganda Kingdom’s BBS TV (Amaaso ku Ggwanga program) on Wednesday evening, the Kyaddondo East MP was asked by moderator Dunstan Busuulwa for his views on Gen David Sejusa who recently advised him to learn from Dr Kizza Besigye’s past experiences and concentrate on building capacity to enter State House as opposed to merely investing in campaigning to get the votes. Using his social media platforms, Sejusa a few days ago observed that Bobi Wine is a very popular young man with potential to win the popular vote in 2021 but expressed fears that (just like Besigye who he said won in 2006 but failed to take power), Kyagulanyi too might end at just winning and fail to seat in the chair. Sejusa said that in 1980, President Museveni failed on getting the vote but excelled at building capacity to enter State House, a childhood ambition he indeed accomplished in 1986. In his answer, Bobi Wine implied that he construed Sejusa’s call for plan B to be an instigation to plan rebellion similar to what Museveni undertook in 1980 resulting into his becoming president 5 years later in 1986. In his answer, Bobi Wine said he was too cleaver to jump into the trap being set for him by the likes of Sejusa. “They want us to take that line so that Museveni gets justification to intensify the brutalization of our people and the use of brutal force to crush our [People Power] movement,” he said. “Me as Bobi Wine, I don’t have to have any plan B. We operate in the open and that plan B, if any, has to be with the people with whom the real power resides to determine the fate of this country.” Mr. Wine added that: “What we are doing now is to encourage people to get national IDs so that we have a large reserve of potential voters. We know those people will always rig elections but we can overwhelm them once we get very many people to vote. They can steal some votes and still fail to stop our win and that’s why we are saying ‘twebereremu buli omu funa endanga muntu.’ This is what we are occupied with for now.” And in case there is massive rigging still and his win gets neutralized for presidency? “The people will vote and thereafter they can determine which plan B to pursue if rigging once again stands in their way. If they are not satisfied with what the EC announces, they can spontaneously go to the streets to claim their win and that is within their power should they choose that to be their plan B,” Mr. Wine said.

He maintained “we don’t need any secretive plan B different from that because we believe in open methods of work.” He also advised Ugandans to concentrate on first things first and avoid being preoccupied on whether he will be a presidential candidate in 2021 or not. “You see my brother [Busuulwa] it’s not about me as Bobi Wine because I could even have been killed in Arua the other day and yet this country has to move on. So let nobody do this because of me. It’s the country that is above all of us that everyone should aim at saving out of this quagmire,” he told BBS listeners. In reference to the day’s events that saw the State unleash brutal military force to prevent his Boxing Day musical concert at Busabala, Mr. Wine said if it’s his objective to break his political resilience by going after his businesses, President Museveni will end a very disappointed man “because I’m not going to be cowed.” He said he was encouraged by the fact that his immediate family was now become more emboldened to rally behind him as he takes on the Museveni state. “That is why I want to thank my wife Barbie and my children who are now home watching this program. Especially my eldest son, little as he is, likes these things very much and doesn’t miss watching any political talk shows. You guys [wife & kids] have given me reason to soldier on and we shall prevail in the end,” he said in his concluding remarks.
