You haven’t seen the worst if you thought being photographed downtown riding on a boda boda was too bad for once high flying Ugandan diplomat and UN bureaucrat Olara Otunnu.
Just last week there was frenzied discussion as the facebook community discussed the photo of a casually-dressed Otunnu being carried on a Boda.
We have since established that this was just a tip of the broader Otunnu strategy never to use private means of travel as long as Museveni and his NRM remain in power in Uganda.
We have reliably established that recently Otunnu spoke to his close confidants back home in Kitgum and told them of how he had thrice survived being assassinated in planned accidents along the Kampala-Gulu Highway.
The man from Mchwini told his kinsmen that instead of being bumped off by political adversaries he claimed are after his life, he will strictly be travelling public means despite having several posh private cars at his home in Nakasozi Buddo where the likes of Medard Segona also stay.
“He has since entered a five year contract with one of the bus companies and has paid his bus fare upfront for the next five years. He will always be travelling to Kitgum by bus and never by private means.
Recently some of his friends, travelling for the same event in Kitgum, offered him a lift and Olara Otunnu declined saying no thank you.
He went on to explain he would have made it easier for those wanting him dead the moment he travels by private means,” said a close friend adding that Otunnu believes he is safer when he travels by bus with many other travelers.
“He has the money let nobody deceive you because even recently he got a very big lump sum pay cheque from a group he consults for in Australia and has lucrative consultancies with the UN Secretary General’s office regarding Africa because of his deep understanding of the continent’s problems,” the source concluded about Otunnu who these days frequently travels to Europe and North America like never before.
