At this year’s URA Women’s Conference 2025, held in celebration of Women’s Day, URA reinforced its commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs with essential tax knowledge.
Speaking at Wash & Wills Hotel, Mbale City, Commissioner for Domestic Taxes Sarah Muzungyo Chelangat delivered a powerful message, that women are not just contributors to the economy, but the backbone of national development.
Representing the URA Commissioner General, Chelangat urged women to embrace their tax responsibilities, stressing that understanding tax laws is a game-changer for business success. “Ignorance of the law is no defense,” she cautioned, encouraging female entrepreneurs to stay informed about evolving tax policies to avoid compliance pitfalls.
Under the theme “How To Make Tax Work for You,” Chelangat equipped women with vital knowledge on proper records management, leveraging tax incentives, and financial discipline. She also debunked the myth that tax exemptions favor only foreign investors, emphasizing that local businesswomen can and should take advantage of these benefits.
Beyond tax matters, Chelangat rallied women to break barriers in business, support each other, and champion financial literacy. URA’s commitment to tax education ensures that women-led businesses thrive, compete, and dominate in Uganda’s economy.
URA urges female entrepreneurs to tap into tax incentives, maintain accurate financial records, and stay tax-compliant, because an empowered woman is a financially unstoppable force.
