Criminal charges have been preferred against three managers working for Simon Ssekankya’s Hardware World headquartered in the Kampala neighborhood of Ntinda.
The three are cash managers Racheal Nambirige and Naome Esther Nanozi plus their supervisor Anitah Namwebe.
Namwebe is a resident of Kasaala village in Nakifuma town council and the other two are of nearby Naggalama township in Mukono. These have since been arraigned in Nakasero-based Grade I Magistrates Court under the Anti-Corruption Division.
They are charged with conniving to defraud and steal Shs350m from their employer. Hardware World is owned by Kampala businessman Simon Ssekankya.
The prosecution case is being led and made out by chief state attorney Nelly Asiku and state attorney Sandra Mutuwa. The trio is supposed to have stolen the missing Shs355.5m from the Hardware World branch of the Kalagi Township near Nakifuna Mukono district.
The offence, which has since attracted the attention of URA auditors to take a more close look at the tax returns previosly filed by Hardware World, was allegedly committed over the period between January 2020 and August 2023.
Whereas the other two accused persons are on the run and still missing, the Magistrate has released Namwebe on the cash bail of Shs15m. The case has since been adjourned to 20th February.
