In a stern call for women’s economic empowerment, Janet Kataha Museveni, Uganda’s First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports has urged the public to embrace a women-led industrial revolution during the launch of the Buikwe Women’s Industrial Hub on Thursoday. Her message was delivered by Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa.
Part of the African Women in Processing (AWIP) initiative, the hub is designed to give women the tools, support, and opportunities to lead the country’s industrial transformation.
Kataha described the industrial park as a landmark moment for women’s participation in industry, saying it will help remove long-standing barriers that have limited their engagement while creating new opportunities for economic growth. She thanked the partners whose support made the project possible.
The First Lady said that the hub aligns with Uganda’s National Development Plan four (4) and the Parish Development Model (PDM), helping the country move from a peasant economy to an industrial one. She also emphasized that empowering women has wider societal benefits, improving welfare for families and communities.
Through the hub, Ugandan women will access affordable financing, support for product certification to meet international standards, and infrastructure, tools, and systems that level the playing field, measures which aim to dismantle systemic challenges and position women as leaders in the industrial sector.
