In a world where digital services are shaping economies, Uganda is making a bold move to secure its place on the global outsourcing map.
The government has unveiled the National BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) Policy and launched a nationwide publicity campaign to create jobs, attract investors, and position Uganda as Africa’s top outsourcing destination.
The launch, held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, on saturday, February 22, was led by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. With over 70% of young Ugandans struggling to find employment, the BPO sector is seen as a powerful engine for job creation and economic growth.
The new policy provides a structured approach to develop digital skills, streamline business processes, and encourage investment.
Dr. Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, highlighted the campaign’s role in raising awareness. “We must ensure that young people across the country are informed, skilled, and ready to seize these opportunities,” she said.
Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister for ICT and National Guidance, described BPO as a “game changer” that will increase Uganda’s digital exports and create thousands of jobs.
With this strategic push, Uganda is not just adapting to the digital age, but determined to lead, innovate, and turn its youthful workforce into a competitive advantage on the global stage.
