When the sky, our trusted highway, turns into a place of sorrow, the weight of loss is felt far beyond the crash site. For those left behind, grief knows no borders, and neither should compassion.
Today, February 20, 2025, Uganda joins the world in marking the International Day for Air Crash Victims and Their Families, a day dedicated to honoring those who have suffered the unimaginable and ensuring they receive the support they deserve.
Led by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), this observance underscores the importance of swift and humane assistance to survivors and grieving families. The laws of international aviation call for the country of occurrence, and neighboring states, to facilitate travel for airline representatives and victims’ families, ensuring they can be present when their loved ones need them most.
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) stands firmly behind this cause, reaffirming its commitment to compassion in aviation.
Through Uganda’s National Air Transport Facilitation Program (NFALP, 2023), UCAA works tirelessly to uphold safety, support, and dignity in the face of tragedy.
Air travel may be one of the safest ways to move, but when disaster strikes, the response must be swift, humane, and unwavering.
As Uganda joins ICAO and other member states in this solemn observance, the message is clear, that no one should walk the path of grief alone. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
