FDC’s Nandala Mafabi on Sunday electrified Sironko District as he trekked for over 10 kilometers, drawing massive crowds, receiving gifts, and making several stopovers in a dramatic homecoming that lasted eight hours.
Mafabi began his trail in Sironko District at 10:55am from his home in Bunazomi Village, Busamanga Sub-county.
What started as a convoy drive later turned into a marathon-like journey, as he chose to run on foot for more than 10 kilometres.
Along the way, he made a stop at the family graveyard where he paid respect to his late father, Sam Magona, who not only raised him but also mentored him in politics.
After the visit, Mafabi continued his journey on foot up to Bugusege Trading Centre. While on the road, he received various gifts from supporters, including goats, cows, chicken, matooke, and money.
He made several stopovers before finally reaching the rally venue in Sironko Town at around 7pm. Supporters lined the roads, waving and flashing the FDC “V” sign while shouting “uweffa”, meaning “ours,” as a show of loyalty and excitement.
Because of the long journey and the hot weather, many people were seen drinking water to keep hydrated.
Due to the overwhelming crowds along the way, it took him eight hours to make it to the final rally. Upon arrival late for the scheduled time, he apologized to the supporters who had waited for him and promised to return in January.
He was accompanied by several leaders, including Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Margaret Wokuri Madanda, Isaiah Sasanga, and other FDC leaders.
