NRM Sets Dates to Vote Speaker Annet Anita Among’s Successor

By Mulengera Reporters

The NRM Party Electoral Commission has released a tentative election road map for the forthconing round of elections. This comes moments after the very grateful National Party Chairman Gen YK Museveni renewed the mandate of Prof Fredrick Odoi Tanga to continue serving as the party’s EC Chairman.

Besides Tanga, the others on the newly reconstituted ruling party EC are former Ministers in the NRM government namely Fred Omachi (the Vice Chairman) and Major James Williams Kinobe. The other members include ex-Abim Woman MP Julian Modesta Auma, James Tweheyo (who represents Workers in CEC), Jane Babiha Alisemera (who is also a Minister in Obudingiya bwa Bwamba) and Zaitun Driwaru.

The NRM EC’s draft roadmap will have to be approved by CEC during the upcoming session slated for Wednesday 2nd April. It shows that people wanting NRM flag for MP, local council and other positions will be required to conduct joint campaign rallies, a decision the ruling party could regret as it’s likely to be prone to violent scenes; which will give fodder to the Ugandan media and thereby disreputing the ruling party.

The draft roadmap shows that the persons the ruling party will front for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament will internally be votet and agreed upon between 20th and 23rd May 2026.

The incumbent duo of Anita Among and Thomas Tayebwa will most likely be retained in line with the ruling party’s tradition and practice of allowing people at that level to exhaust and serve out two terms each of 5 years. But in case that is to be departed from, which can happen, their respective successors will have to be selected and proclaimed during that same period namely 20th-23rd of May 2026.

The same draft also shows that the selection of the ruling party’s EALA flag bearers will be the very last roadmap activity and will be held between 20th & 24th August 2026.

The other scheduled activities, as has been spreading on social media, can be seen as follows:
