PIC: Nabeta is no longer the MP for Jinja East following court’s decision
COURT | ELECTION PETITION
KAMPALA – National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Nathan Igeme Nabeta has been thrown out of Parliament after the Court of Appeal declared the Jinja Municipality East seat vacant Friday morning.
The judgment was read by Taddeo Asiimwe, the court registrar, but it was signed by three judges.
Paul Mwiru of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) lost to Nabeta in the 2016 parliamentary elections in the race for the seat. At the time, Mwiru was the incumbent, having defeated Nabeta in the 2011 polls.
Mwiru went to go the High Court over the matter. However, the High Court dismissed his petition.
Not contented, Mwiru petitioned the Court of Appeal.
