Mawokota South MP Yusuf Nsibambi has defected from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), further reshaping the opposition landscape in Parliament.
Nsibambi, who met with Speaker Rt Hon Anita Among on Tuesday, cited the opposition’s lack of clear direction and defined agenda as the reason for his switch. “The opposition in Parliament lacks a clear vision and agenda for the people it represents,” Nsibambi said, explaining his decision to join the NRM.
The defection comes ahead of forming the new government, where Nsibambi is rumored to scoope a ministerial post. Nsibambi’s move follows a trend of opposition MPs joining the ruling party, citing dissatisfaction with the opposition’s leadership and strategy.
Speaker Anita Among welcomed Nsibambi to the NRM, unveiling a new batch of independent MPs-elect who have pledged to work with the ruling party. The move is expected to boost the NRM’s majority in Parliament, giving the party greater control over the legislative agenda.
