The DF big man Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba on Friday campaigned for his party Candidate Aidah Nakuya who is battling NUP’s Davis Lewis Rubongoya and NRM’s Minsa Kabanda for the position of Kampala Central MP.
The Friday rally was held in the Kampala Central slummy suburb of Kisenyi and was jointly addressed by Mpuuga, DF National Chairman Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaku, Spokesperson Moses Kasibante and others.
In his speech, Mpuuga said that the next area MP must be Aidah Nakuya because Rubongoya, who Kavule fronted, is alien and doesn’t even adequately know the geography of the area.
The DF boss asserted that Rubongoya has no background nor roots in Kampala Central whose villages, cells and wards he doesn’t even know. He claimed that if asked to show people where Kisenyi is located, Rubongoya will just go buy a Fuso of sand and deliver it to them.
Such a man, Mpuuga argued, is too inept and unqualified to be elected on 15th January to be the one to replace a high-performing and highly effective MP who he said Mohamed Nsereko has been in the last 15 years since 2011 when he was first elected. He said he knows very well that Nsereko has been the best MP Kampala Central has ever produced.
In contrast to Rubongoya, Mpuuga said Nakuya is a born of the area who has grown in Kampala Central to the extent that there isn’t a single village or parish whose boundaries she doesn’t know.
He also equally discouraged the voters from voting for Minsa Kabanda who he said is too old to manage Kampala’s contemporary problems, besides being part of the governance problem Ugandans have endured in the last 40 years of Gen Museveni’s rule.
AIDAH NAKUYA TRACKRECORD:
Other speakers like Moses Kasibante decampaigned Rubongoya and also made reference to Aidah Nakuya’s track record. Voters were reminded of the 2013 Erias Lukwago impeachment chaos during which Nakuya stood with him even when she was on the NRM ticket at KCC Lord Councillor representing the youth of the entire Kampala at City Hall.
Erias Lukwago, who those days had no Speaker at City Hall, was accused of failing or refusing to regularly convene KCCA Authority meetings.
State House, through the then Kampala Minister, mobilized the Lord Councillors to impeach the Lord Mayor while plotting to enthrone Suleiman Kidandala who was his Deputy as of that time.
Majority were NRM though even the opposition had a significant number of Councillors at City Hall. All the opposition Lord Councillors accepted money and turned/voted against Lukwago, with exception of Allan Sewanyana who went on to become Makindye West MP in the subsequent elections of 2016.
A total of three Lord Councillors sided with Lukwago namely Sewanyana, Aida Nakuya and PWDs’ Mpindi Bumali, both of whom were NRM.
This is the track record of incorruptibility which Mpuuga wants Kampala voters to reflect upon and consider electing his Aidah Nakuya as a person who will join the equally public-spirited Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago to protect public property in Kampala, including the Nakivubo channel which Rubongoya’s NUP party is faulted for not doing enough to protect.
