The UCC Executive Director, who has maintained he has no personal vendetta against jailed TV10 Gano Mazima broadcaster Dean Lubowa Sava, on Tuesday 23rd December walked the talk and acted magnanimously when he sent for the controversial scribe’s close family members and drowned them in Christmas goodies.
The relatives showed up at the Bugolobi-based UCC head offices, where the ED sits, and walked away with a massive Christmas gift, courtesy of Hon Nyombi Thembo’s magnanimous personality.
This is something they never expected moreover at a time their breadwinner continues languishing in Luzira prison after being arrested and prosecuted for allegedly violating and refusing to comply with broadcasting license-related laws, which the Thembo-led UCC is mandated to enforce.
Nyombi Thembo explained to them that he wanted them to partake of the joy of Christmas even in the absence of their breadwinner Saava whose continued absence has naturally deprived them and his other dependants of lots of material wellbeing.
In the absence of other UCC officials, Hon Thembo informed his guests how their breadwinner Dean Lubowa Saava was an old friend with whom they had known each other since the year 1995. He added that even when that is the case, the law is the law and it has to strictly be enforced the way it is.
Before taking photos with them, Hon Thembo explained to the family members that there is currently nothing much he can do to help Saava because it was now a Court matter into which not even the UCC ED or even the President is legally permitted to intervene.
Notwithstanding the fact that he is among those that were offended and made to become aggrieved as a result of Saava’s controversial broadcasts via his TV10 Gano Mazima, Nyombi Thembo acted the adult in the room by informing the family members that he was ready to mend fences, let by-gones be by-gones, reconcile and once again closely collaborate with the detained journalist.
He clarified this will only be possible after the Court process, which the state seems determined to pursue to its logical conclusion, has fully played out and brought to its logical end. Dean Lubowa Saava, the head of online broadcasting house TV10, has been in Luzira prison since the first week of September.
Thembo’s good will gesture of reaching out with such a surprise Christmas gift was something and sort of solidarity any family ought to be entitled to in the absence of their breadwinner on the eve of such an important feast day like Christmas. As he interacted with his guests, Hon Thembo made it clear that this was his personal act as a compassionate individual Ugandan, and not in his official capacity as the UCC Executive Director. He hoped that he doesn’t end up being perceived as and accused of interfering into Dean Lubowa Saava’s ongoing Court case.
