Mukono Municipality burst into excitement as President and NRM Chairman Yoweri Kaguta Museveni held a powerful campaign rally at Naggalama Playground. After a long wait, residents finally received the President with joy, songs, and massive crowds.
Thousands turned up to welcome Museveni, thanking him for coming to their area. The rally was full of happiness, energy, and strong political messages that clearly boosted NRM MP Candidate Daisy Sonko Nabatanzi.
During the rally, shocking revelations caused anger among residents. The President and the Speaker of Parliament revealed that government has spent billions of shillings on medical treatment abroad for Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze, her husband, and their helper.
This news angered many people. Residents questioned why so much public money was spent on one individual while health centers in Mukono are struggling, schools lack support, and roads are in poor condition.
People said it was unfair and painful, especially since such information had been denied before. The crowd openly expressed bitterness, saying the money should have been used to develop Mukono instead.
Calls for change in leadership grew louder. Residents accused the current MP of focusing on endless fights and political wars instead of improving livelihoods.
Many said Mukono Municipality has suffered from leadership overstaying without results. They declared that on 15 January, they will vote out leaders who have failed to deliver.
Support quickly shifted toward Daisy Sonko Nabatanzi, with residents saying she represents fresh energy, unity, and development. “Mukono people are intelligent. We know who has worked and who has not,” several residents said.
NRM leaders revealed that although the party had earlier lost some supporters, Museveni’s visit has revived support and brought many back ahead of polling day.
Residents praised government projects in Mukono, including road infrastructure, PDM, Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Programme, elderly support, and PWD programs.
Daisy Sonko promised to work closely with government to transform Mukono. She pledged to lobby for a DIT skills training hub to equip youths with practical skills and reduce unemployment.
She noted that 73% of youths below 35 years are unemployed, many without O-Level education, and said skills training is the solution.
As the election draws closer, the mood in Mukono is clear and loud: Museveni’s rally has tilted the ground and Daisy Nabatanzi is gaining the edge.
