NRM delegates from the Island district of Kalangala Sese have vowed to give a block vote to Microfinance Minister Haruna Kasolo for the CEC position of ruling party vice chairman for central region.
Led by their leaders, the Kalangala delegates over the weekend met and interacted with contestant Haruna Kasolo and made it clear this session was just to thank him for his large heart while assuring him of their block vote come NRM national conference and CEC elections next week.
The event will be at Kololo ceremonial grounds where the ruling party will host a gathering of not less than 45,000 guests. These will include party delegates and other guests such as other political party leaders and foreign guests from other countries.
Kasolo and his opponents, who include little known ones like Joseph Mukasa Sewava and Hakim Kyeswa, are using these remaining days to ensure that they secure every vote. The incoming Kyotera county MP has to work real hard even when he is already far ahead of the other contestants, going by the latest opinion polls which have put him at 70% favourability among delegates from across Uganda.
Over the weekend, Kasolo campaigned among delegates from Kalangala who showed him love and made it clear that their vote was exclusively his. “You are our person for sure and you are genuine because you aren’t interacting with us because of the CEC vote. You have always been there for us. Years ago, long before you even considered this CEC position, you learnt about out sanitation problems which were largely because of lack of adequate toilet facilities and you weighed in. We are eternally grateful for the Ugx250m that you invested in putting up toilets infrastructure and today water borne and sanitation-related diseases are significantly down on our islands because of that personal intervention you made,” said an unnamed delegate in a viral tik tok video.
The same man went on to say (as others cheered) that now was their time as Islanders to reciprocate Kasolo’s support by killing him with votes while wooing their peers from other greater Masaka districts to ensure he secures a landslide victory at Kololo.
As he took photos with the delegates at the end of the meeting, an overwhelmed Haruna Kasolo commended Kalangala community members for remembering his humble contribution and most importantly for properly and sustainably utilizing the toilet facilities he donated to them years ago.
