FDC TOOK DEMOCRACY TOO FAR, KATO LUBWAMA

Rubaga South MP Kato Lubwama has said it’s the ordinary FDC members, and not the leaders at Najjanankumbi that will have the last word on the wrangling that has engulfed the country’s biggest opposition party. Speaking on 88.8 CBS FM last evening where he was hosted by Alex Nsubuga, Kato Lubwama said “Its a problem of ego on both Najjanankumbi and the Winnie Kiiza group in Parliament. They must calm down and resolve these petty differences. If they fail, then the ordinary party supporters should mount pressure forcing them to reconcile.” The Rubaga South MP said the ordinary members have a lot of power and it’s only them who can adequately make it risky for their leaders to continue bickering. “Please storm their homes and offices or wherever you can find them and demand that they end the bickering but if you also take sides in the bickering, then its going to be too bad,” Kato Lubwama said. He was answering an FDC supporter who called in asking what they as mere electors can do to restore sanity at Najjanankumbi. But Kato Lubwama also warned those fighting KB in the FDC saying “you can simply not wish away Dr. Besigye because he is the founder and father of the party.” Eddie Sansa, who was appearing with Kato, said its high time KB authors another dossier similar to what he authored exposing chaos in the NRM in 1999. “That document had many good points and my party NRM would be far if they had listened to Colonel’s points,” said Sansa a leading NRM ideologue in Lwengo. Kato Lubwama said the biggest problem for FDC was seeking to be too ideal and too good in its practices in a country where democratic practices aren’t yet sufficiently appreciated. “They democratized too much and that was wrong. Why must you keep having elections every now and then in a 3rd world country like ours? That is ideally okay but not practical for a peasant society like ours. Most of the conflicts in FDC are related to elections right from when Gen Muntu stood against Dr. Besigye, Nandala standing against Muntu and now POA. The party would be okay but elections became too frequent,” said Kato Lubwama renowned for his pragmatic approach to things. “Because of too much electioneering, some people now say FDC has three Presidents. There is Dr. Besigye, Hon Amuriat and Gen Muntu. It all started from electioneering yet its clear Besigye is the biggest of all. Why did they have to subject him to elections instead of just agreeing to share responsibilities by way of consensus? My point is elections must be abolished for cohesion to return to that party,” Kato Lubwama concluded.
