As we reported recently, President Museveni not very long ago convened a meeting to de-escalate intrigue and feuding between several antagonistic camps in the Kibale-Kakumiro political axis which is the home turf for Ministers Matia Kasaija, Fred Byamukama and Premier Robinah Nabbanja.
The trio comprises of Museveni’s most powerful cadres currently from the Kibale-Kakumiro axis. Gen Museveni was concerned that political misunderstandings between Kasaija/Byamukama camp on one hand against that of Nabbanja on the other, were costing the ruling party and complicating several cadres’ reelection in 2026. He directed Kasaija to go spearhead reconciliation and report back to him.
From what we have gathered, it appears that Kasaija’s efforts haven’t yielded much thus far as the feuding has only escalated. The Byamukama group have since petitioned the President claiming that the Premier’s camp has refused to stop using the RDC Major David Matovu to undermine and persecute local area politicians who are perceived as not adequately loyal to Nabbanja’s political interests.
Sources indicate that Capt Matovu has often been required to behave as if he is the campaign agent for cadres aligned to the Robinah Nabbanja camp. The Kakumiro situation has become so complicated and hostile for Major Matovu to the extent of praying day and night so that he gets transfered to another station.
In fact, Matovu (sick and tired of Kakumiro leaders’ endless intrigue) these days prefers staying away to shield himself against being misunderstood though claims of bias have persisted. Some of his fellow RDCs have likened Maj Matovu’s Kakumiro predicament to forced labor whereby an officer of government is made to serve in an area where they aren’t comfortable and feel they can’t render any effective service from.
