Equity Group Holdings Plc has once again stamped its authority in the financial sector after being named a Superbrand in East Africa for the fourth time, solid proof that the roots of a strong tree run deep.
The announcement, made on May 19, 2025, came with applause and admiration across the region as the banking giant was celebrated for its consistent excellence in quality, reliability, and purpose-driven services.
The recognition was announced as part of Superbrands East Africa Volume 9, an elite edition that only features brands that have earned the respect and trust of both consumers and industry leaders.
This isn’t Equity’s first time at the top. The bank was the first in Kenya to be named a Superbrand back in 2007, and now becomes the only one to claim that title four times, living up to the proverb, “the higher the monkey climbs, the more it is seen.”
Dr. James Mwangi, Equity Group’s CEO and Managing Director, could not hide his gratitude. “We owe this to our loyal customers and hardworking staff. This is not just an award, but a reminder to keep doing what is right, because when you walk with the people, the journey becomes lighter,” he said.
According to Superbrands East Africa Project Director, Jawad Jaffer, Equity earned this recognition through a mix of technology, strong governance, and a heart for the people. “They’ve shown that modern banking can still have a soul. This is what makes Equity a true Superbrand,” Jaffer said.
Just recently, Equity scooped 16 accolades at the 2025 Think Business Banking Awards, taking top slots in SME banking, agricultural financing, mortgage services, and even financial literacy.
It’s no surprise, then, that the bank continues to grow its footprint across East Africa, proving that “when the roots are deep, there is no reason to fear the wind.”
With over 21 million customers, nearly 400 branches, and a powerful digital platform, Equity now wears the Superbrands Award Seal across all its markets, a visible sign that “a good name is better than silver and gold.”
As the Group continues to spread its wings across Africa, it remains clear that Equity is not just a bank, but a movement built on trust, community, and a dream that “even the smallest axe can cut down the biggest tree,” if wielded with purpose.
