The fruits of hard work and determination were on full display as 29 young scholars celebrated their university graduation under the Equity Leaders Program (ELP).
On January 27, 2025, Equity Bank Uganda marked a historic moment as it honored the first cohort of ELP scholars who successfully completed their university education.
These graduates were part of the 122 students who joined the program in 2022, a leadership and mentorship initiative aimed at shaping future leaders.
Gift Shoko, the Managing Director of Equity Bank Uganda, speaking on behalf of Dr. James Mwangi, the Equity Group Foundation Executive Chairman, applauded the scholars for their dedication. “These young leaders are proof that with the right support, dreams can turn into reality. Education is the key to transformation, and we are proud to see them take their place in society,” he said.
The Equity Leaders Program does more than just pay for tuition. It equips students with real-world work experience, mentorship, and valuable career connections.
Many of the graduates have worked with Equity Bank during their studies, and some are already advancing in various industries.
Elizabeth Wahito, Acting Head of the Public Sector & Social Investment Unit at Equity Bank Uganda, encouraged the graduates to keep striving for greatness. “The future is in your hands,” she said. “With the knowledge and skills you have gained, we believe you will be the torchbearers of Uganda’s progress.”
Since its launch in Uganda, the program has expanded, admitting more scholars each year. Plans are already in place to welcome the fourth cohort, ensuring that more bright minds receive the guidance they need to succeed.
