Mr. Claver Serumaga, the Executive Director (ED) of Equity Bank Uganda, has today Monday, November 24, 2025, used the launch of the 5th Equity-NARO Golf Open to celebrate the Bank’s 17 years of service in Uganda and to underline the importance of investing in grassroots talent.
Speaking at the Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club in Namulonge, Serumaga said the tournament has grown into a respected event because it is held at a course that has “raised golfers the way a good garden raises strong crops.” He said Namulonge is a nursery of talent where many of Uganda’s finest golfers took their first swings, and this is why Equity Bank continues to support the club and its young players.
Serumaga announced that this year’s tournament will run under the theme “Swinging to 17 Years of transforming lives,” explaining that golf teaches the same patience, discipline, and strategy that the Bank has followed throughout its 17-year journey. He said the Bank’s progress has come from taking steady, well-planned steps, just like a golfer lining up a winning shot.
To mark the anniversary, Serumaga revealed that the 17th hole will be specially branded as the Equity 17th Hole, representing each year of partnership between the Bank, customers, and the communities it serves.
He said the tournament, set for November 27th to 29th, will attract both amateur and professional golfers, including a team from Zimbabwe, adding that the Bank’s presence shows how far the tournament has grown and how Namulonge is becoming a recognised venue beyond Uganda.
Serumaga also highlighted the Bank’s partnership with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), saying progress becomes easier “when two hands work on the same task.” He noted that the partnership has strengthened both sports development and community growth.
He assured the public that this year’s edition will offer a well-organised, competitive, and memorable experience, with special activities around the 17th hole to celebrate the milestone.
Serumaga also thanked the management of the Namulonge course, NARO, the media, and the community for supporting the growth of the tournament, and also encouraged golfers to prepare for a strong contest and invited the public to join the event later this month.
