The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the official polling dates for the 2026 General Elections, following the conclusion of nominations at all levels.
EC Chairperson Simon Byabakama told Ugandans through a press conference in Kampala that the elections for President and Members of Parliament, including directly elected MPs and District Woman Representatives, will take place on 15th January 2026.
The National Conference to elect Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) Representatives to Parliament will be held on 19th January 2026, alongside elections for councillors representing Special Interest Groups including Youths, Older Persons, and PWDs at Sub County, Town, and Municipal Divisions.
Councillors representing Special Interest Groups at Municipality and City Divisions will go to the polls on 20th January 2026, followed by the National Conference for Workers Representatives to Parliament on 21st January 2026.
District Local Government Council elections including District and City Chairpersons, Mayors, Lord Mayors, and councillors are scheduled for 22nd January 2026, while Municipality and City Division Chairpersons and councillors will be elected on 27th January 2026.
On 28th January 2026, the National Conferences for the election of the National Female Youth Representative and the National Female Older Persons Representative to Parliament will take place.
The Army Council will also meet on the same day to elect UPDF Representatives to Parliament.
Councillors representing Special Interest Groups at District and City levels will vote on 29th January 2026.
Regional Conferences for Older Persons Representatives to Parliament are set for 2nd February 2026, while Sub County, Town, and Municipal Division Chairpersons and councillors will be elected on 4th February 2026.
Regional Conferences to elect Regional Youth Representatives to Parliament will take place on 6th February 2026.
Byabakama urged all stakeholders including political parties, candidates, civil society, observers, security agencies, and voters to take note of the polling dates and prepare to participate fully in the elections.
With this schedule, Uganda is entering a busy election season, and the EC says it is calling on every citizen to take part in shaping the country’s future.
