BESIGYE IS A BIG THREAT TO MUSEVENI- OPONDO

By Simon Turibamwe

Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo has explained how Col (Rtd) Kizza Besigye is a giant in the politics of this country and a big threat to NRM’s Yoweri Museveni. Opondo told the media that Col Besigye is one of the second shroud politician after President Museveni who can be taken serious during electioneering. Opondo said that Besigye and his FDC have got solid foundation the reason why they can cause panic in NRM in a democratic election.

 Dr. Besigye during recent campaigns

Opondo who was hosted at NBS TV together with JEEMA President General Mr. Asuman Basalirwa revealed that much as other politicians in the opposition can’t be underrated, he knows that the strength of Besigye and FDC is built on a solid foundation, unlike the rest who are registered without followers and vision. He went on to tell Basalirwa that even if they gather around a single person, Besigye who is now being fought for being calculative and consistent will still defeat them because none of them is stronger than him. “Some of you are fighting Dr. Besigye and criticizing FDC but he is the only candidate who can shake the NRM, the rest of you are just heard or seen but not felt on ground the reason why NRM can’t concentrate on you,” said Opondo. Opondo described Bobi Wine as the weakest among the contenders. He went on to predict that if Besigye can be able to gain 12% in an election Bobi Wine will get 0.2% leaving the rest for Museveni.

President Museveni in a recent campaign

He added that the NRM is now gaining because of the fact that all political parties being formed are against Dr. Besigye and not fighting for change like him whose message is change in both policy and system. “You can’t just aim at fighting Besigye and say you are changing the country that means you are not looking at policies but only targeting individuals. I’m praising Besigye and FDC because they have a solid foundation not like some of you who just registered for political parties without justification,” said Opondo. When Asuman tasked him to tell why he has made a U-turn to praise Besigye whom he has been criticizing like nothing, Opondo said that he is not praising but speaking his mind. He said he has never supported and don’t intend at any time to join Besigye and his group but he Knows him as a strong person and FDC as strong party with solid foundation and focused agenda.

President Museveni

Opondo who made a comparison between Besigye and DP’s Norbert Mao, said that Besigye has endured all the humiliations and attacks by both the ruling party and fellow opposition unlike Mao who calls them stupid and watermelons. “If you are a candidate who stands to say that, if stupidity was taxable government would be rich, that Acholis are not voting machines and also calling fellow leaders as watermelons or pumpkins what does that mean? It means you have lost vision completely,” said Opondo. His praises to Besigye prompted Basalirwa to respond that Opondo was being divertive to hoodwink Ugandans on Bobi’s candidature. Basalirwa further insisted that Bobi Wine is the most feared among the contenders the reason they are threatening to evict him, banned from arranging concerts and frustrating his businesses as well as restricting his movements in some parts of the country. “The feared and strong candidate who gives Museveni sleepless nights is the one he has harassed, threatens to evict from Kamwokya, his businesses suffocated and music shows cancelled but not the one you are praising. I’m even wondering why you are praising Besigye like a ghost today yet you have been bashing him like he is of no value,” wondered Basalirwa. Recently FDC President Patrick Oboi Amuriat revealed that Besigye is likely to appear on the ballot. So far three contenders who include Bobi Wine, DP Norbert Mao and Incumbent President Museveni have confirmed must appear on the ballot come 2021. For comments, call or text us on 0752510225.
