The FDC has dismissed concerns over Mawokota South MP, Yusuf Nsibambi’s official crossover to the NRM, saying the Najanankymbi-based political outfit had anticipated the move and is well-prepared to continue its mission without him.
Party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi explained during a TV interview that the departure of party bigwigs, including Nsibambi, does not weaken FDC because its strength lies in its structures, collective leadership, and long-term vision rather than any single individual, further describing Nsibambi’s exit as a predictable outcome of decisions that had been quietly forming for some time.
According to Amuriat, the signs were evident during Nsibambi’s early February 5th, 2026 visit to President Museveni at State House, which revealed inconsistencies in his character and hinted at intentions that weren’t aligned with the Najanankumbi’s principles.
“His visit to State House revealed signs and irregularities in his character, clearly showing that he had been planning this all along,” Amuriat boldly said.
The FDC Boss noted that while Nsibambi had spent 49 years opposing Museveni’s government, his move to the yellow camp exposes him to public scrutiny and the pressures that come with aligning with long-standing power structures. For the FDC, his exit is viewed as a personal choice rather than a blow to the party’s mission.
Amuriat emphasized that the FDC continues to grow and recruit new supporters, focusing on those joining the party rather than those leaving. Recent departures (including those of Col. kizza Besigyes deciples), he said, are part of political life and have been anticipated in the party’s planning and strategy. He highlighted that his party remains committed to its long-standing objective of promoting political change, upholding democratic principles, and offering a platform for citizens who seek alternatives to the NRM.
