Former Mawokota North MP, Ameria Kyambadde, has officially thrown her hat into the ring for the 2026 parliamentary race, signaling a determined return after a period away from elective politics.
Kyambadde, who today nominated her candidature at the NRM Electoral Commission for the party primaries, expressed deep dissatisfaction with the current representation by MP Hillary Kiyaga (Dr. Hilderman), whose tenure she says has fallen short of the constituency’s expectations.
“I had shied away but I’m now ready to fight,” Kyambadde said, questioning the incumbent’s ability to deliver meaningful results, adding she had hope in the popstar but she’s disappointed.
“Dr. Hilderman has only delivered free entertainment to the people of Mawokota. When people have functions, he normally comes and sings for free, so for that I’m grateful but our people need more than that,” the former Minister said.
The remarks echo her earlier frustrations, when she revealed efforts to engage Dr. Hilderman on development issues but were met with claims that he did not cooperate with the ruling NRM government.
Ameria she’s hurt by the fact that there’s so much unfinished business but whenever she reached out to the MP, he said he doesn’t work with the NRM government.
According to Kyambadde, her comeback follows persistent calls from traders, youth, and boda boda riders in Mawokota North, who, she says, have urged her to return and complete the projects she started.
While Dr. Hilderman remains popular among some as a local entertainer, Kyambadde’s remarks suggest that the constituency’s appetite for leadership extends beyond musical performances to tangible development and political engagement.
Her return into the race is expected to test the waters of loyalty and performance in the constituency as the 2026 elections approach, with observers keen to see whether voters will opt for renewed experience or the familiar rhythms of the incumbent.
As Kyambadde herself notes, “I’ve learned not to take support for granted. I’ve lost before, so I know how to prepare better this time.”
