Uganda’s Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, has received British Investor Lord Krish Raval, who is in Uganda to explore potential investment opportunities in the country.
Lord Raval, a member of the Labour Party and a member of the House of Lords in the United Kingdom, met Prime Minister Nabbanja at her office in Kampala on Tuesday. The meeting was also attended by Second Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, Third Deputy Prime Minister Rukia Nakadama and other government ministers.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Nabbanja directed the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) to facilitate the prospective investor and ensure that his interests are addressed in accordance with Uganda’s investment laws and procedures.
Nabbanja also highlighted several areas of investment in which the government is seeking increased private-sector participation, following discussions held between Lord Raval and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Lord Raval had earlier met President Museveni at State House Entebbe on Monday, where they discussed investment opportunities and areas in which he could potentially invest.
The visit has particular historical significance for Lord Raval, who was born in Uganda in the 1970s but left the country with his family after the expulsion of Asians by the government of former President Idi Amin.
After spending more than five decades in the United Kingdom, Lord Raval has returned to Uganda, the country of his birth, as he considers investment opportunities.
Lord Raval is a British citizen and a member of the House of Lords, the upper chamber of the UK Parliament. He is also a member of the Labour Party, which is currently the governing party in the United Kingdom.
His visit comes amid government efforts to attract both domestic and foreign investment into Uganda as part of its broader economic development agenda.
Speaking during the meeting, Prime Minister Nabbanja emphasised the government’s commitment to creating an environment in which investors can pursue business opportunities while receiving support from relevant government agencies.
She directed the Uganda Investment Authority to work closely with Lord Raval and ensure that the necessary guidance and assistance are provided as he evaluates possible areas of investment.
The Prime Minister also outlined investment areas that the government believes could be of interest to the British investor, although specific projects and the value of any proposed investment were not disclosed.
Lord Raval’s engagements with President Museveni and Prime Minister Nabbanja mark the beginning of discussions on possible investments. Further consultations with government agencies are expected as he assesses opportunities available in Uganda.
The government has continued to court foreign investors in sectors considered important to Uganda’s economic growth, with investment facilitation remaining a key responsibility of the Uganda Investment Authority.
