Semujju Nganda, the opposition Chief whip in Parliament & also the spokesperson for FDC, says all change-seeking forces must fight hard to placate Bobi Wine and the momentum his People Power has created from opportunists trying to lay siege around him. He gives the example of PDP leader Abed Bwanika whom he says until recently he didn’t know he was in opposition, as one of those opportunistic trying to monopolize Mr. Wine. Semujju says Bwanika’s decision to defend President Museveni’s 2006 election win in court when the opposition candidate Kiiza Besigye challenged him, left him doubtful if indeed the man from Kingo belongs to opposition. Semujju says the same Bwanika has now made himself the vision bearer for the People Power Movement. Semujju Nganda says the worst the change-seeking forces can do to alienate Bobi Wine is to market him as an alternative to Besigye and other more experienced leaders that have resisted Museveni longer. Semujju advises that Mr. Wine, whom he praises as courageous, charismatic & energetic should be marketed as an addition (and not an alternative) to what the Besigyes have been doing for all these years “so that you don’t alienate people who have been in the struggle” longest as well as their respective supporters. Semujju says the apparent competition between KB and Mr. Wine is deliberately being fermented by fortune-hunters and jobseekers who blame their previous political failures on one man Besigye. He says the biggest obstacle even to the joint opposition presidential candidate are such people who are scheming to fight for MP & local Councilor positions. The very analytical Kiira Municipality MP says (like we argued in our weekend analysis titled ‘What Mr. Wine must do to make M7 Weep in 2021’) that the process to determine joint opposition MP candidates must begin now because once that is sorted, agreeing on a joint opposition presidential candidate will be much easier. He says in most cases such confusion, failing consensus at the presidential level, has always been fermented by guys selfishly seeking MP positions. Mr. Nganda expressed his views in his highly controversial Observer column for this week. For comments, call, text or whatsapp us on 0703164755.
