David Kabanda has advised LoP Joel Ssenyonyi not to waste his time thinking that trying to be nice to deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa will save him from the impending job loss as is desired by Gen MK the CDF, for whom he serves as the Executive Assistant on all PLU-related errands.
Kabanda told the Direct Shot interviewer JB Kisitu that Joel Ssenyonyi shouldn’t delude himself by imagining that his NUP party’s decision to get all their foot soldiers stop personal attacks against Gen MK will save him. He said MK is a serious leader who keeps his word and never abandons missions midway without completion.
The Kasambya County MP said he remains part of the MK-instigated coordination team working towards ensuring that ultimately Ssenyonyi gets dethroned. He said they are motivated by many factors including the fact their move is very popular among opposition MPs, including those from Ssenyonyi’s NUP caucus.
Kabanda added that preparatory process remain ongoing, which is why the Speaker recently cleared and facilitated the key proposal movers Dennis Namara, Linos Ngompek and MP Okwalinga to go on a benchmarking trip in Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa to establish how the LoP function is performed while strengthening their argument against Ssenyonyi.
He said that, even when the matter has lately been out of the news, he and other PLU strategists remain actively engaged and making all the necessary preparations to ensure the Joel Ssenyonyi tenure is brought to an end and a new LoP, more agreeable to the larger opposition caucus, has been installed. The potential Joel Ssenyonyi removal is something many NUP adherents are very much worried about, which is why many foot soldiers no longer make personal attacks directed at demonizing the person of Gen MK.
The CDF’s name is no longer mentioned at NUP press conferences at Kavule nor even on the numerous Tik Tok live sessions. Recently a journalist posted a story which portrayed Ssenyonyi as being very defiant towards the CDF and that news reporter was gagged and chased away from Kavule at the subsequent press conference.
On their Tik Tok lives, NUP adherents will discuss everything else but won’t tolerate anyone mentioning Gen MK’s name or that of any other first family member. It’s clear that everyone is scared and prepared to adhere to the signal and instructions that were given to them by the top leadership at Kavule-namely to desist from hiding behind Bobi Wine’s name to make personal attacks at CDF. Such fears multiplied after Muwanga Kivumbi was picked and rearrested only a day after his Butambala fiery speech in which he demonized Gen MK.
Yet to Kabanda, not even all this newly adopted cautious approach will make Gen MK forget or abandon his mission to dethrone Joel Ssenyonyi. He said during the Kisitu interview that it’s only the unexpected change of heart by Gen MK that will save Ssenyonyi, and not becoming nice and deferential towards leaders like Thomas Tayebwa.
