Mityana Deputy RDC Mwanjuzi Back Again, Orders Closure of Glorious Junior School Over Holiday Teaching

By Ben Musanje

Mityana Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Prossy Mwanjuzi has ordered the closure of Glorious Junior School in Mityana Town after finding the institution teaching primary pupils and secondary students during the school holiday.

Mwanjuzi said she encountered several schools conducting lessons while moving around Mityana Town and immediately intervened to stop the practice. Teachers found conducting lessons at Glorious Junior School were arrested and are being held as authorities investigate the matter.

“I was moving around Mityana Town and saw schools teaching children and had to stop it. I have arrested them. Many are here, and parents have to enter an agreement on condition that they won’t return their children to school during holidays,” Mwanjuzi said.

The Deputy RDC said the enforcement was intended to ensure that schools comply with the official school calendar and protect learners from being subjected to continuous academic pressure during holidays.

Parents whose children were found at the school have reportedly been required to sign agreements committing themselves not to send the learners back to school during the holiday period.

By press time, the management of Glorious Junior School had not issued a statement regarding the closure or the arrest of its teachers.

The latest action is not the first time Mwanjuzi has taken decisive measures against a school over alleged violations of education regulations.

In March 2026, she ordered the immediate closure of Bright Way Junior School in Naalyamagonja Village, Kyamusisi Parish, Kalangaalo Sub County, following investigations into the alleged torture of a Primary Seven pupil.

A district education report indicated that 14-year-old Nabatanzi Irene had allegedly been tied with ropes and severely beaten by the school proprietor, Bukenya Fredrick, also known as Amooti. She reportedly sustained injuries to her back, arms and legs and complained of severe internal head pain.

The proprietor admitted to the assault and was later arrested and arraigned in court.

Although the school was initially ordered to close, it reportedly reopened about two weeks later following intervention by area Member of Parliament Kibedi Nsegumire, despite concerns that some conditions set by authorities had not been met.

District officials have maintained that enforcement actions are aimed at protecting learners and ensuring compliance with education laws, irrespective of political affiliations.
