The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has engaged leaders of Kyotera District Local Government in discussions aimed at strengthening tax compliance and promoting responsible management of public resources.
The engagement began with a pre-tax education compliance check-in between URA officials and the leadership of Kyotera District Local Government to assess the district’s current tax compliance position.
The meeting was led by Marion Lubowa, Supervisor of Compliance and Enforcement in URA’s Public Sector Office, together with tax education officers. They held discussions with Kyotera District Chief Administrative Officer Nfitumukiza Muhamed and Chief Finance Officer Kyambadde Robert.
The discussions focused on the tax affairs of Kyotera District and its administrative units, including five town councils and nine sub-counties.
The check-in provided an opportunity for URA officials and district leaders to review the local government’s compliance status, identify areas that may require attention and prepare for a broader tax education engagement with district officials.
Lubowa commended the district’s Chief Finance Officer for ensuring that the local government consistently files and pays its tax obligations on time.
She noted that timely compliance with tax obligations is an important aspect of responsible public financial management and contributes to the effective functioning of government institutions.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for district officials to raise questions and share their experiences regarding tax administration and compliance.
URA officials used the session to clarify the tax obligations applicable to local government institutions and encourage officials to maintain proper compliance practices.
The pre-engagement meeting subsequently set the tone for the wider tax education session, creating an open environment for officials to discuss challenges they encounter in fulfilling their tax obligations and seek clarification from the tax body.
The authority’s engagement with Kyotera District forms part of efforts to improve tax awareness among public sector institutions and strengthen compliance across local governments.
By engaging directly with local government leadership, URA is seeking to ensure that public institutions understand their responsibilities under the tax laws and maintain timely filing and payment practices.
The discussions also underscored the role of local government finance officials in ensuring that tax obligations are properly accounted for as part of sound public financial management.(For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
