Equity Bank Uganda has launched a powerful new digital banking platform that could fundamentally change how businesses manage money, replacing paperwork, branch visits, and back-office delays with real-time financial control from a smartphone or laptop.
Dubbed Equity Online for Business, the platform was unveiled in Kampala as the bank’s most ambitious digital offering yet, giving companies the ability to manage accounts, pay suppliers, process salaries, settle taxes, execute international transfers, and monitor cash flow instantly from a single platform.
The launch signals Equity Bank’s latest push to accelerate Uganda’s transition towards a digital, cash-lite economy while helping businesses operate faster and more efficiently.
Speaking at the launch, Equity Bank Uganda Executive Director Claver Sserumaga said the platform was developed in response to the changing demands of modern commerce, where speed, convenience, and real-time decision-making have become critical to business success.
“Commerce is evolving rapidly, with customers expecting immediacy, reliability and seamless integration,” Sserumaga said. “Equity Online for Business responds to these needs by consolidating all essential financial tools into one platform.”
The new system replaces EazzyBiz, Equity’s previous business banking platform, and introduces a range of advanced features designed to eliminate inefficiencies and give businesses greater control over their finances.
Users can now access real-time account visibility, multi-currency tracking, automated fund transfers, instant foreign exchange updates, integrated bill and tax payments, and automated reconciliation tools that reduce accounting workloads and improve financial oversight.
In a move that shifts power directly to businesses, companies can independently create, manage, suspend, or remove users through self-administration features without relying on the bank.
The platform is accessible through web browsers, mobile applications, and integrated enterprise systems, allowing businesses to run operations from virtually anywhere.
For many entrepreneurs, the impact is already being felt.
Hassan Abdullah, one of the platform’s users, said the technology has dramatically transformed how he manages his business.
“I used to be the first at the bank and the last to leave,” Abdullah said. “Now I run almost everything from my desk or phone. We’re close to 100 percent digital, and honestly, this is one of the best platforms I’ve seen.”
According to Immaculate Asiimwe, Equity Bank Uganda’s Head of Payments and Channels, the platform is designed to remove bottlenecks that traditionally slow down business operations.
“We are giving business owners full control to manage operations in real time,” Asiimwe said. “Upload files, pay salaries, approve international transfers. Everything you need is done instantly with no waiting or back-office delays.”
She added that businesses can manage taxes, utility payments, payroll, supplier payments, and cash flow management directly from their devices while maintaining robust security controls.
Security remains a central feature of the platform, incorporating One-Time Password authentication, token verification, enhanced password protection, approval workflows, and multiple user-access controls.
The innovation has also drawn praise from regulators.
Bank of Uganda Director for National Payment Systems Tumubweine Twinemanzi described the platform as an important step in strengthening the country’s digital payment ecosystem.
“This is an innovation in many ways,” he said. “Our role is to support systems that people can trust for their transactions, while also encouraging innovation in the financial sector.”
With businesses increasingly demanding faster, smarter, and more connected financial services, Equity Bank is betting that the future of banking will not happen in branches—but in the palm of a customer’s hand.
