The Electoral Commission (EC) has received the first batch of 60,000 Biometric Voter Verification Kits (BVVKs) at Entebbe International Airport, marking a major step in preparations for the 2026 General Elections.
The kits, which arrived in the country last night, were officially received by EC Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon together with senior Commission officials. The Commission said the arrival of the BVVKs highlights its ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency and credibility in Uganda’s electoral process.
According to the EC, the biometric kits will be used during the 2026 General Elections to verify every voter before they cast their ballot, helping to prevent voter fraud and improve the accuracy of voter identification.
Justice Byabakama described the arrival of the equipment as an important milestone in the Commission’s broader plan to modernize electoral operations and ensure free, fair, and credible elections.
The EC is also expected to receive more consignments of election materials in the coming months under its phased procurement and deployment programme ahead of the 2026 polls.
