The Sevolution Cross-Sector Integrated Foundation of East Africa will officially launch construction of the H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Specialized Men’s Cancer Hub of East Africa, hereafter Museveni Men’s Cancer Hub of East Africa, at a high-stake gala dinner on Friday, 17th July 2026 at Hotel Africana, Kampala.
The launch will convene high-level categories from across Uganda and the region, including Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, government officials, private sector leaders, development partners, health experts, members of the diplomatic corps, cultural leaders, and civil society, to champion men’s cancer care in East Africa.
The Hub will be constructed in Kiruhura District, Uganda, the country home of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
*ABOUT SEVOLUTION*
Sevolution is a contemporary term derived from “Sevo,” the renowned Gen-Z shorthand for Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and EVOLUTION, reflecting generational continuity. It is defined as a multidisciplinary exploration of President Museveni’s governance approach, policy reforms, and their lasting effects on Uganda, the East African region, and the broader African continent, including initiatives to promote and institutionalize his legacy.
The foundation was established to promote the ideals of Pan-Africanism, socio-economic development, and recognition of outstanding contributions to regional integration, in line with the vision of H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, fostering a brighter future across East Africa.
*ADDRESSING THE MEN’S CANCER CRISIS*
We are striving to change the narrative on men’s cancer in East Africa.
The construction of the Hub is a game-changer, aimed at addressing the growing need for specialized men’s cancer care in the region. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer is a growing health concern in East Africa, with prostate cancer being one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among men. In Uganda alone, over 2,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer annually, with a significant number succumbing to the disease due to late diagnosis and limited access to specialized care.
Men are often disproportionately affected by the disease, partly due to societal norms and stigma that discourage them from seeking medical help early. While significant attention and resources have been dedicated to women’s and children’s health, men’s health has often been overlooked. This Hub is a step towards bridging that gap and ensuring men have access to the care they need.
The situation is dire, with many men in East Africa lacking access to basic screening services, let alone treatment. The foundation acknowledges and commends the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) for its tireless efforts in providing cancer care and treatment to the people of Uganda and the region. However, with increasing demand for cancer services, UCI has faced challenges in coping with the patient load. This Hub will help decongest UCI and provide specialized care to men from across the region, building on UCI’s legacy and enhancing access to quality cancer care.
As such, this is a regional issue that requires a regional response, and we are calling on governments and partners across East Africa to join us in supporting this initiative.
*HONORING LEADERSHIP, ADVANCING REGIONAL INTEGRATION, AND CHAMPIONING MEN’S HEALTH*
As part of this vision, the Museveni Men’s Cancer Hub of East Africa will reserve and dedicate buildings to selected bush war heroes who fought alongside H.E. Museveni, most of whom have demonstrated leadership from the liberation struggle to the present, and whose legacy continues to impact Uganda, East Africa, and Africa as a whole. These include Gen. Salim Saleh, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, and Lt. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso, among others. The buildings will be:
