Kampala businessman Faruk Ntege, a brother to ex-Kampala Mayor Nasser Ntege Sebaggala (aka Seya) who has also twice (2021 & 2026) stood for Makindye West MP seat as a NUP-leaning independent, says he is finally done with the Kavule-based political party.
On Wednesday evening, Ntege drove to Bulange-based CBS radio to announce that he had realized that the NUP party doesn’t represent the future he originally believed it did. He revealed in an interview with journalist Kalule Lameck that he was done with tying (okwesiba) himself to NUP whose top leadership clearly doesn’t wish him any political success. In 2021, he was disregarded in favour of Allan Sewanyana and in favour of Zahara Luyulika in 2026.
He also defended his decision to be one of the 17 politicians who the FDC Deputy President Yusuf Nsibambi led to State House Entebbe for a meeting with Gen Museveni last week. Ntege said he had been praying for the day he would meet Gen Museveni even when he was busy soliciting to become the NUP flag bearer for Makindye West.
A close ally of both Nsibambi and Nabillah Nagayi, Ntege narrated how he had been in the anti-Museveni struggle longer than Bobi Wine and his NUP party top executive members-and now was time to move on and try something else.
“I started opposing Museveni’s government in 1995 when I was still in University and I’m not ready to remain part of opposition NUP, which doesn’t have anything new to offer anymore. I’m now grown up and I’m not prepared to continue doing the same thing, which hasn’t delivered any victory for all these years,” said Ntege.
He also made it clear that he had been badly demoralized and devastated when the NUP top leadership twice denied him their flag for Makindye West even when he clearly was the best mobilizer and fundraiser they had to command that part of Kampala.
He said he was ready to do all he can, including working with Gen Museveni inside the NRM government, in order to get a platform to contribute to the nation-building of his country Uganda. Not very long ago, this same Ntege was part of the NUP adherents who used to amplify the NUP foot soldiers’ talking points to the effect that legendary opposition leader Kizza was all along a project planted by Gen YK Museveni to dupe the people of Uganda.
He had no problem with those who spent the 2017-2021 period wildly claiming that Besigye and Museveni where the same. He was ready to say or even bankroll anything that could help him demonstrate extreme loyalty to Bobi Wine in the hope that such would increase his chances to land the NUP ticket to become their flag bearer for Makindye West.
