Vote Ability & Not Just NUP Symbol: Matia Lwanga Bwanika Warns voters

By Mulengera Reporters

A video of outgoing Wakiso LC5 Chairman Matia Lwanga Bwanika wearing a bold face and disregarding what his bosses inside NUP might say or think about him, a few days ago, emerged and trended on social media.

In it, Bwanika makes it clear that time has come for opinion leaders, cultural and Kabaka’s officials in Buganda to begin coming out boldly to fearlessly guide and give some leadership as the country counts down to 2021, while calling out lies being propagated by the so-called foot soldiers.

Specifically addressing his message to Ffumbe clan leaders, Bwanika warned that Wakiso, which is home to the graveyards of more than 35 Buganda Kings and also to the headquarters of that clan, is on the verge of being culturally desecrated. Effectively stopping all that, including conspirators who want to grab the hill on which the Ffumbe clan headquarters is situated, Bwanika suggested, will require voters using 2026 to vote into office credible leaders with a name to protect.

He said as LC5 Chairman for 15 years, he has fought many battles in order to protect important cultural sites for Buganda which are situated in Wakiso, which largely is comprised of Busiro and Kyadondo counties.

Bwanika said he has fought many wars to protect such Kingdom land yet many of those Kavule has fronted to take over the district leadership after him, are conspirators who have always been used by the wealthy aliens/land grabbers to pay money and incite councillors against him.

“They even tried to collect signatures to have councillors impeach me from office on grounds that I’m anti-development yet I was just protecting cultural sites. I don’t see how any of those sites is going to survive once those people come into these leadership offices.” As a way forward, Bwanika called on Buganda Kingdom leaders and clan heads in Wakiso to put off their gloves and publicly or openly de-campaign some of those people.

He suggested the message to the voters should be that “please vote for people who understand and know what is at stake as opposed to voting just party symbols” like the NUP umbrella. Bwanika said falling for merely party symbols is going to result into Buganda Kingdom counties especially Busiro and parts of Kyadondo, which comprise Wakiso, having leaders who don’t know what is at stake and will end up making deals at the expense of Buganda’s cultural sites and treasures.

Bwanika is eyeing Busiro South MP Seat and wants voters to consider him number one choice when they are casting the vote regardless of which party symbol he comes on. Already speculation is widespread that Bwanika isn’t among those the NUP EC will be favouring for party ticket.

Reports indicate that Steven Sekigozi, whose father Patrick Musisi and brother JB Balikuddembe used to be area MP on the ticket of DP, is the one who is being favoured for Busiro South. Bwanika, who for many years worked on CBS radio before becoming Wakiso LC5 Chairman in 2011, is determined to stand as an independent and might prevail regardless of whether NUP gives him their ticket or not.

Yet Bwanika isn’t the only credible leader from Busiro whose political future remains uncertain. His ally Medard Segona is unsure of what is coming because some insiders at Kavule are favouring rich man Emmanuel Matovu Magoola who is claimed to be more on ground than him.

Some are claiming that Magoola is a generous man who is prepared to part with all the money he will be getting to buy a new car for himself as a new MP and donate the same to Kavule to run party headquarters. A few veteran opposition activists in Busiro East like Silus Kasato have vowed to stick to Segona regardless of who gets the party ticket.
