The Uganda Police has officially broken its silence following a terrifying road crash that left Maj. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeyi, the former Deputy Inspector General of Police, injured and his vehicle destroyed beyond recognition.
The incident, which unfolded Saturday afternoon, sent shockwaves across the nation.
The high-ranking military officer, currently serving as Deputy CEO of the National Enterprise Corporation, was reportedly returning from a marriage ceremony in Mbarara when tragedy struck along the notorious Mbarara–Kampala highway.
Speaking out for the first time since the incident, SP Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, confirmed the accident occurred at around 1:40 PM along the Sembabwe–Gomba road in Kabango, Sembabule District.
The crash involved a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (reg. UDP-982L) and a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 (reg. H4DF) carrying the General and his wife.
Kananura revealed that both vehicles were moving in opposite directions when they collided in a violent side-swap crash at a curve.
The General’s vehicle sustained catastrophic damage, particularly on the driver’s side. Eyewitnesses say the impact was so severe that the vehicle was left almost unrecognizable.
Maj. Gen. Sabiiti sustained serious injuries and was initially rushed to a nearby facility before a military helicopter was dispatched to airlift him to Kampala for advanced treatment.
His wife, who was also in the vehicle, was injured, though her condition remains undisclosed.
According to police, preliminary findings indicate the accident occurred at a blind curve, but a full investigation is now underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
In a statement that sought to calm growing public concern, Kananura reassured the nation: “We are pleased to report that Major General Sabiiti Muzeyi is in stable condition and out of danger.”
The silence-breaking statement has only intensified public interest in the case, with many demanding answers about road safety and whether the crash could have been avoided.
As investigators dig deeper, all eyes remain on what really happened at Kabango and whether anyone will be held accountable.
