Hope Grania Nakazibwe’s chances at getting re-elected as Mubende Woman MP increased on Thursday when some of the young women who were planning to stand against her as NRM-leaning independents bowed out.

Speaking at Hotel Africana were all participants in NRM primaries converged to find common ground under the command of Haruna Kasolo, Faridah Uwamahoro Bigirimana who was declared 3rd with slightly over 15,000 votes bowed out of the race and declared support for Grania Nakazibwe.

She excited people at the meeting when she explained that she was bowing out because the NRM victory and that of Gen Museveni is bigger and more important than any individual NRM cadre.

Bigirimana, who quit her COMESA job to come and stand in NRM primaries because she wanted to represent her people in Parliament, said she doesn’t lose much waiting for next time (2031) since she is still a young lady and has a lot of time ahead of herself.

“This was my first time trying to run for a political seat and its okay let’s work towards ensuring the NRM party and our dear President wins. There will always been another chance,” she told the Thursday gathering at Hotel Africana.

This leaves Grania Nakazibwe (who polled 50,000 votes) to compete with only Teopista Tindimwebwa, a teacher at Mubende SS who has vowed to stay in the race as an NRM-leaning independent. NUP has aspirants for Mubende Woman MP Seat too but they don’t stand much chance because, being home to PLU Secretary General Daudi Kabanda, Mubende district remains an NRM stronghold.

Bigirimana’s decision to bow out of the race was welcomed as a patriotic move by Grania Nakazibwe, AG Kiwanuka Kiryowa and other senior NRM leaders present who unite under a pressure group called “Buganda on Museveni [Buganda ku Museveni]” where the Mubende Woman deputizes Buvuma County MP Robert Migadde Ndugwa.

Kiryowa and Haruna Kasolo implored other NRM flag bearer races’ losers to emulate Bigirimana’s example and postpone personal ambitions in service of the greater NRM spirit.
