DF publicist Moses Kasibante had originally signalled readiness to plunge into the politics of Kampala Central and run for the MP Seat which NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya is currently eyeing.
Kasibante is a wordsmith and isn’t an opponent anyone sane would like to meet in any contest. Hence his readiness to go for Kampala Central had created some anxiety among the Rubongoya camp members.
His view had been that he had a duty to run in Kampala Central in order to stop Rubongoya now that Lord Councillor Moses Katabu who the DF adherents were counting on all along had cracked and feared to take on Rubongoya.
But the good news finally is that Moses Kasibante has abandoned that thought and is now having his eyes on the Rubaga North Mayorship currently being held by Zachary Mberaze who in 2021 narrowly defeated old lady Joyce Sebugwawo.
Rubaga residents woke up to Kasibante’s posters pasted everywhere as they went to work on Tuesday morning. He is coming in at a time when Mberaze is facing extreme resistance especially from fellow Nupians who are angry and many of them are attributing their failure to get NUP tickets on him.
Mberaze is also vulnerable because he is an incumbent who had also served as one of the Rubaga Councillors for several terms before ascending to the office of area Mayor. Kasibante is also part of the Erias Lukwago coalition whose members are determined to make the private development of the 72 acres/9 kms Nakivubo channel a campaign issue in order to put incumbent opposition Lord Councillors on the defensive.
Kasibante has already demanded that his rival Mberaze declares where he stands on the Nakivubo channel issue-is he for or against its redevelopment and under what circumstances would such a thing be permissible. Besides Mberaze, Kasibante will also be facing media activist Hassan Kirunda and former JEEMA leader Siraje Kifampa-both of whom are from PFF.
There is also Omuk Peter Zzaake who works in Katikkiro’s office and is still oscillating between Rubaga Mayorship and Rubaga North MP seat. He too might join PFF in the coming days along with others like Kira’s Julius Mutebi and Kawempe’s Latif Ssebaggala.
